Athlete Privacy and Collection Notice

As an athlete who may receive or is receiving Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) support, it is necessary for the TIS to seek your informed consent to collect, use, store and disclose your personal information.

General Privacy Advice:

The following types of personal information of persons may be collected, either directly from a person or from another authorised person such as a health professional or legal representative:

  • Basic personal information (e.g. name, address, date of birth)

  • Sensitive personal information (e.g. health information)

Personal information will be managed in accordance with the   Personal Information Protection Act 2004  (Tasmania).

What Personal Information is TIS collecting?

The TIS is collecting the following personal information:

  • Name

  • Date of birth

  • Gender

  • Contact details

  • Sporting affiliation

Your results from:

  • TIS medical screening

  • TIS musculoskeletal (physio) screening

  • Mental Health screening

  • Sport Integrity Australia Anti-Doping Fundamentals and the Annual Update (as made available by Sport Integrity Australia) online education

Why is the TIS collecting your Personal Information :

The TIS seeks to collect your personal information for the primary purposes of:

a) Setting-up your athlete profile on TISLink and AMS (Athlete Management System)

b) Determining your suitability to continue with the TIS by assessing your results obtain from the following TIS performance health screenings:

  1. TIS medical screening

  2. TIS musculoskeletal (physio) screening

  3. Mental Health Screening

  4. Sport Integrity Australia Anti-Doping Fundamentals and the Annual Update (as made available by Sport Integrity Australia) online education.

Consequences if the TIS does not collect your Personal Information:

If the TIS does not collect your personal information, the TIS will be unable to provide you with athlete assistance and support.

Collection, Use and Disclosure of your Personal Information:

As part of our administrative processes, the TIS is supported by the TISLink Athlete Management System and the National AMS database (AMS). Both databases aim to support athlete health and performance outcomes by recording training and performance results, physical and psychological results, coaching and program structure etc.

Your personal information will be collected and stored on both TISLink and AMS.

People that have access to your personal information include TIS employees, consultants in the areas of nutrition, physiotherapy, psychology, and sports medicine who are affiliated with the TIS and are engaged on a fee for service basis. Your personal information will also be shared as reasonably necessary with other National Sporting Organisations (e.g. Australian Institute of Sport) and affiliated sporting organisations and/or in circumstances allowed for by law.

Both TISLink and AMS databases are designed to manage your personal information appropriately. Users access is locked at the appropriate level and access to personal information that is not relevant to the users role is restricted.

Complaints and Access to Records

At any time, you can request for your personal information to be amended, accessed, or withdraw your consent. You can also lodge a complaint or concern about how your personal information has been handled. Please direct any request or complaints to TIS Manager, Business and Relationships.

Retention of Records

Your personal information will be archived in TISLink and AMS within a reasonable timeframe if you conclude your relationship with the TIS.

If you have any concerns or questions, please discuss them with your coach or the TIS Manager, High Performance.

Your basic personal information may be disclosed to other public sector bodies where necessary for the efficient storage and use of the information. Personal information will be managed in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act 2004 and may be accessed by providing a written request to the Department of State Growth and you may be charged a fee for this service.
