Sporting Competitions Access Fund


GUIDELINES

Overview

The purpose of the Sporting Competitions Access Fund (the Fund) is to assist athletes with disability, enabling them to compete in national or international sporting competitions and allowing them to excel in their chosen sport at the highest possible level.

Eligibility

  • Eligible applicants are:

    • Athletes with disability, for expenses incurred by themselves, their coach and/or identified carer to attend a national or international level competition; and

    • Coaches and/or identified carers only of TIS scholarship athletes with disability for expenses incurred to support the athlete at the same national or international level of competition.

    • TIS Scholarship athletes are not eligible for expenses incurred by themselves.

  • Grants are available for eligible applicants attending national or international level competitions held in Australia or overseas.

  • Grants for national level selection competitions or selection camps will also be considered.

  • The sport must be endorsed by the Australian Sport Commission as a National Sporting Organisation (NSO) or National Sporting Organisations for people with Disability (NSOD).

  • Athletes must be able to demonstrate their selection for the international event is based on an appropriate selection process and is fully endorsed by the relevant national sporting organisation.

  • For national competition athletes must have their participation endorsed by their relevant state sporting organisation. 

  • Coaches and/or identified carers of a TIS scholarship athlete with disability must be endorsed by the TIS.

  • Applications must be received before departure to the competition. No retrospective applications will be accepted.

  • Grants will cover eligible costs incurred by the successful applicant, up to a maximum amount of $3,000.00 for each national or international sporting competition.

  • Eligible costs covered by the Fund include competition registration fees, travel (including additional baggage and freight of essential equipment) and accommodation for the eligible applicant.

  • Funding the applicant receives from other sources (e.g NDIS) should be detailed and attached to the application.

Funding Guidelines

  • The Fund is open annually from 1July until 30 June.

  • Applications to the fund are on a first in basis until the annual allocation of funds is exhausted.

  • Funding is available up to $3,000.00 for each national and international sporting competition.

  • Applicants are eligible for one grant per financial year. However, in exceptional circumstances consideration will be given for further assistance based on an assessment of the significance of the competition event involved.

  • In the case of four or more separate applications being made for one event (or for teams’ events), total funding will be limited to $10,000.00 for that event with the funds being divided between the successful applicants.

Terms & Conditions of Funding

  • The recipient must use the funds for approved purposes as outlined in the Funding Guidelines;

  • The recipient must not vary the Approved Purpose without written permission of Grantor (Department of State Growth – Tasmanian Institute of Sport);

  • The recipient must notify the Grantor in writing, if the recipient, for whatever reason, does not complete approved purpose of funding;

  • The recipient must maintain proper records, outlining receipt, use and expenditure of funding;

  • The recipient must, within 60 days of Event conclusion, provide the Grantor record of expenditure of funding via provision of receipts related to Approved Purpose;

  • The Grantor may, by notice in writing to the recipient, demand the recipient repay all (or any part) of Funding to the Grantor if the recipient:

    • Uses all (or any part) of the Grant for any purpose that is not the approved purpose; and

    • Does not complete the Approved Purpose.

Application process

Complete an application form and attach:

  • Documentation from the relevant state or national sporting organisation advising of selection and detailing the selection process, classification (if applicable) and how attendance will benefit the athlete’s development in their chosen sport.

  • For coaches and/or identified carers of a TIS scholarship athlete, a statement from the TIS supporting the applicant’s role in accompanying the athlete to the same national or international sporting competition.

  • A statement detailing all event expenses and all funding sources available to the applicant.

Outcome and Notifying Applicants

The Tasmanian Institute of Sport will provide written advice on the outcome of the application.
